View Full Version : Durock - How do you cut?

I just put in new kitchen cabinets. Put down 3/4 inch plywood for a countertop. Then bought Durock 1/2 inch to put on top. I want to tile the surface. How do I cut this Durock so it does not flake. We tried with a masonry blade - but the dust was incredible - broke apart the sides. Now we are trying to cut by pieces the durock. If I put down fiberglass tape on joints plus mastic - is this okay? Or will my tiles separate. I also bought a huge sink which takes up almost the entire cabinet base - therefore Durock is very narrow in the front and back. Any feedback will be welcome. I thought I should treat the durock like ceramic tile and wet it and use a scorer. Nothing in my books tell me how to cut this stuff.
