Okay, I am then assuming that if I glue it down to my basement floor, I WONT have to stretch it?

Also, how do you make a seem. I will ahve to seam this carpeting in the middle of the room around two support posts.

No you won't have to stretch it, except when doing the seam to work the carpet at the seam with a knee kicker to get it tight.

Seaming glue down...

Lets start on step 1

1. Prep the floor..Scrape, fill holes, sweep, and vacuum.
2. Make your cuts off the big roll to fit in the direction your rolling out the carpet. Usually 3" longer then the net measurement. Incase you didn't see that bow or out of square wall! Do not ¼ turn or ½ turn the grain. It must all run the same direction.
3. Carry into the work area and roll out your starting cut.
4. Put alot of weight on it and start trimming to fit the walls, or you can wait till you have glued and then trim it. Also cut your seam edge, by finding a row in the length of the carpet with an old bic ball point pen(no ink)and use a carpet tool called a top cutter to run and cut down the row, not cutting any nap. If that doesnt work, you will need to straight edge from the back.
5. Cut down your pillars with the seam somewhere in the middle of the pillars.
6. Fold or roll(becareful of the seam you just cut)the carpet back ½ way in the room from the seam, being sure your weights are enough to keep the carpet from moving(setting more then ½ way from the seam area) Mark line about 2' back under the carpet from the seam. This will be your "glue too" line.
7. Start gluing from your line you made back to the folded back carpet, with a properly notched trile. So you don't glue yourself away from the carpet. Glue all the way to where you have the carpet folded/rolled nicely and straight.
8. Gently unfold or roll the carpet into the glue. Rub push and walk on all the carpet you set into the glue to get any bubbles out. 2" or bigger PVC pipe works good to rub the carpet down, with pressure on it.
9. Move you weights, and fold the other ½ back. Start gluing in a corner and work yor way back to the carpet. barely overlap the old glue. You don't want any build up. Then unfold it back into the glue and rub it down the same way.
10. Bring the next cut in and cut the seam and position it, and do a test run on your seam, making it tight like you want it. Weight the far side of the carpet away from the seam and fold/roll it back as you did on the first cut of carpet.
11. Fold the first cut back where you didn't glue at the seam area to your glue line.
12. Start gluing at the seam under the first cut of carpet that you didn't glue and work back to where you have the second cut of carpet folded.
13. Unfold/roll the second cut into the glue, but don't rub it down just yet. Run a bead of carpet seam sealer down the seam edge of the second cut,you just placed into the glue. right on the concrete, as the seam edge is placed into the glue.
14. Now hop across and fold the 2' of the first cut down, and start working the seam together. Usually starting in the center and working to the walls. Using a knee kicker to bump any gaps together, or work it from being overlapped. Don't get any nap trapped into the seam!!!
15. Now rub down the second piece to get any bubbles out.
16. Trim the walls down on your second cut of carpet all the way, and fold the othe ½ back and start gluing from the corner back to the carpet same as the first cut.
17. Lay the final ½ into the glue and rub it down.
18. Stand up... Yell Horay!! Damn I'm good! Then let your wife out of the closet you have had her locked in, since the first argument you had, when you were unloading the carpet in the morning. LOL!!!!

See I told you it was a book!! I don't type fast.
So do I get paid by the hour or by the chapter? LOL!!!!!

Good luck, and I hope I helped shed some light on just what it takes to install a glued down carpet.
