I need some tips on how to get a good looking wall again.
In this older house (1930's)maybe, the walls are plaster with multiple layers of paper. Some paper has come detached and I have been scraping all loose stuff off, spackling with joint compound, sanding then painting. The plaster is usually in sound shape considering the age. I have in the past rented a steamer and taken all the paper off and it did look better. However it is very time consuming and adds to much to the turn around time on the house. Any cost effective suggestions?

Short cuts allway leave the job short of looking good....
Aould you not take all the wall paper off and paint over it it will come loose and bubble under the paint No fix.
If you realy want it to look good install 3/8" sheetrock over the wall and finish as new wall.. If you were to re-paper the wall you can get sizing paper/under paper it is a heavy white paper installed first to make ready a wall that is less than perfect for papering..
