we want to try making our own concrete counter top & could sure use some advise on the proper mix,rebarb,etc.

I think that this of more of a wish than an sincere request on your part. This is an agressive first time concrete project and you're about to find out that it requires techinal skill, equipment, and the ability to think beyond simple how tos. Search this web sites message board http://www.decorative-concrete.net/index.html for counter tops, counter top mix design, ect.. I have made these before, and it's not as easy as it sounds.
