I want to redo a concrete patio by putting crushed stone and or some kind of paving stones on top of the old concrete.

The patio is covered and the perimeter has wood railing which I just finished staining.

Can this be done and what are the problems which I might have to handle? Do I have to worry about freezing and thawing issues?

I live in southern Connecticut if this helps to answer the question.

Thanks!

No biggies here. A sound slab makes a firm base. If heaving should occur (possible but unlikely) it's no big deal to reposition the stones on the base.
