The hot day idea sounds great; unfortunately, I'm in central Minnesota and the temperature is currently -6 with a windchill of -40!

The steam idea is probably the best. How would I actually do this? What would put out enough steam to get out the creases, but not get the rug wet? Could I do this with the rug on the floor, or would I have to somehow raise or hang it?

I should also mention that there is a backing on the rug, some type of rubber (?) material, at least it feels that way.

From a steamer iron, used on clothing. Just don't let the actual iron, touch the carpet at anytime!!!!
I use a portable steamer I got many years ago, that a felt hat maker used to crease and style felt hats with. It has a wand and hose.
