I am remodeling a 1920's home, which has a plastic tile backsplash. Replacing it isn't an option, so I would like to paint over it (mint green just doesn't cut it!)

Any suggestions as to primers and/or paints to use?

Thank you!

You can paint over plastic tile, be sure to clean the surface good and allow to dry, I would sand lightly with a 220 grit sand paper, knock off dust and prime with Zinsser B-I-N and allow to dry, you could sand it again very lightly for a smoother finish, knock off dust, then topcoat with a quality paint of your choice, being a backsplash I would use a gloss or semi-gloss so it will be easier to clean. Be sure to keep an eye on the simulated grout lines, that is where it will try to run if you are brushing.

Hope this helps,
