I purchased an old building which has old nob and tube. There are three wires in the tube (1) white (2) black (3)Red. What are these three wires? Which is hot, which is neutral and what is the third wire? I would appreciate any help.

hello goldenblade,
ok i think u r refering to bx not knob and tube. knob and tube is 2 seperat wires on knobs whin run along fraiming members ans threw tubes whin threw framing members. i cant tell you for sertion which wire is hot or which is the nutural i can only give you advice on how to tell, and an educated gess. you will have to use a volt meter, place 1 probe of meter on the white and other on each of the other 2 wires(red and black), if you get a reading of 120 on each wire then place tester across the red and black, if you get a reading of 220 this is a multi wire circuit, and the white is the nutural, and each of the other 2 wires r hots.if you get a reading on only 1 wire then the other is probily a switch leg.
