I'm looking for information on what I should expect the temperature of my heatpump to output. I'm in the Charlotte, NC area and the output is only about 70 degrees if I'm lucky, and runs forever until the auxilary heat comes on. There are 2 Trane XL's, one for each level with plenty of flow.
The home inspector noted that it should be outputting 85 to 90 degree heat. The local dealer said it was running normally...

Here is a rule of thumb from a heat TECH.Buy a thermometer.Better yet if you have access to a digital one use it.Place the heat pump to heat.Make sure the back up heat(resistance heat, emergency heat) is NOT ON!!!!Place the thermometer in the return duct;obtain a reading, allow unit to run at least 10 minutes.Keep running unit, place the thermometer in a supply diffuser, allow unit to keep running. If your HP is efficient and working good you should see at least a 20 degree difference between the temp. going into the air handler and the temp going out.The same for your backup heat, however, you should more of a temp increase with the backup heat running. If your temp. increase with HP running is only 8 to 12 degrees something is not right.PDF

20 deg. temp. diff. between air in and out. If less call someone. I've done alot of work in that area and one of the biggest problems was that the return air flex was disconnected and your heating outside, or crawl space air. Check out your return.
