When my central heat is on and the temperature falls below the set temperature, the heat will not come on. Raising the temperature setting has no effect. If I turn the heat to off and then back to on, it will start working again until
it does the same thing over again. Could it possibly be the thermostat is going bad. This has been aggravating. Do you have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this situation.

Thanks

Jimbo, by turning off the system and then back on you are resetting the safety devices. It sounds like for some reason the furnace is locking out on you. It could be any number of problems ie. flame failure, blocked vent, roll out etc. you should have a pro look at it.

Try this.If you have a fairly new unit.Start your unit, allow it to cycle off. When you notice the room temp. is definetly below what it should be remove the panel from the furnace. The board in the unit will be flashing a code.Your unit should have information on what this flashing red light or code means.REMEMBER be careful when removing panels because power is still on to unit. Most units have a switch so that when it is removed the blower shuts down. When reinstalling this panel make sure it is positioned properly.PDF
