How do I remove the silver (mercury) from the back of a mirror to turn it back into clear glass?

It"s not done most of the time! It's far to exspensive and there's a high possibility that the glass will break! It would be far cheaper to go to your local glass co. and have them duplicate the glass!

craft stores sell a chemical stripper for taking the silver nitrate, copper plating, and enamel paint off of selected areas for decorative purposes, sandblasting is also used for a satin or obscure finish.None of these methods is practical for achieving optical quality glass.New glass cut to size should range between $3-$6 per square foot cut to size(depending on thickness)at a glass shop.
