I had to rip out the old, smelly carpet in my new home. It covered both the living and dining rooms. I planned to go with the hardwoods, and after removing the carpet discovered the living room hardwoods are in excellent shape.
The problem is the dining room. These hardwoods have some black spots (old glue residue)and areas where the old varnish has worn away, leaving areas of the hardwood exposed. I plan to get a large throw rug for the dining room until I can afford to have these hardwoods refurbished.
What can I do to cover the non-protected hardwood areas where the varnish has worn away??
One area in particular will not be covered by the throw rug, and is in the high traffic dining room/kitchen doorway. I want to protect the hardwoods as best I can and as long as I can until I need to call in the professionals.
