I am just starting to refinish my oak floors, built around 1945, and want to know whether I should fill *all* the gaps with wood filler. A good number of the boards have gaps between them, ranging from a 64th to 3/32nds.
After vacuuming and washing the floor, I started filling all the gaps in one corner and realized that this is a lot of work! Plus, the filler (DAP) doesn't work that easily.
Should I instead just fill the very few nail holes and gouges I find, then move on to sanding, etc?

There is no set rule for this. Gaps and gouges do give old floors some "character". Some people want all the holes filled and others want something different. Yhe decision is yours.

I'd fill only the most obnoxious gaps, and learn to appreciate the others. This is wood -- and wood isn't a perfect material. Learn to enjoy its character.
