We have 3 children and a dog and think that a wood floor in the kitchen is not workable, but we like the look.
My question is: Can a wood floor work in a kitchen with children under 12 and survive without us having significant maintenance issues or major scratches? What kind of wood would do the trick?

Jerry,
We have had oak flooring in our kitchen for 5 yrs.I wouldn't change it for anything.
It stands up well with very little maintence
and we live on a farm and we have 6 dogs.
