I am having a thick Berber installed in my basement. It will end at a ceramic tiled laundry room. Where the 2 meet at the doorway, should I have the tackless strip
installrd right up to the tile edges, or leave a small space and silicone caulk it?
I would us a Z-Bar but the carpet is real thick and wouldn't bent over the strip. I'm just concerned with the tile edges chipping or the carpet freying at the edges....Any ideas???

Have you left a lip between your backer and tile. If so all you need to do is install the carpet tack strip just 1/2" from the edge just like the rest of the room and tuck the carpet under the tile lip. This is the way our house was done, and we had no tile chipping or carpet freying in ten years.

Bring your concern up to your carpet installer. Maybe call him before hand so he can be sure to have the necessary stuff on hand.
