Good afternoon, Ed:
Twice per second? Hmm! I would hazard a guess that the problem is caused by an electrical source such as a fan, auto ignition, etc. These forms of interference do not always come from the antenna and may be produced in the line voltage to the set. The frequency is too high for the power supply to filter it out. Try another plug at a different location.
Second cause could be a radiated interference that is being picked up by the indoor antenna. Two things to try:
(1)if it is a field generated harmonic, it should be producing standing waves on the antenna lead. An old household trick is to put a small strip of aluminum foil around the flat wire from the indoor antenna. Slide the foil up and down the wire slowly. You may get lucky and find a spot that will null the harmonic.
2)Increasing the signal strength on that channel may allow the set's internal filtering to overcome it. For that you might stop at Radio Shack and pick up a small amplifier to put between the indoor antenna and the set. A 3 dB antenna gain from an amplifier equates to doubling your incoming signal strength and may be enough to swamp the interference.
