my gas dryer is heating on low temp and short cycle the vent is clear i cleaned the lint i had to put a 196 deg. thermo fuse in it and now it only heating on the short cycles less dry or moist dry the dryer is a whirlpool about 4 yr old

I haven't got a clue since you mentioned already installing a 198 degree thermo fuse???

Where did you find that fuse in the dryer?
Why was it in need of replacing?
Who told you it needed replacing?

Unless the part is referred to by another name, maybe a temperature sensor? High limit switch? Moisture sensor?

My off handed guess would be the contact points in the timer on the cycle that isn't working. This is not an inexpensive part. I wouldn't replace it without having it tested first, at the appliance parts store.
