When putting ceramic tile on the floor of a bathroom, I know it is recommended that the toilet is removed and the tile is extended under the toilet. However, this means that the drain flange is now about 3/8" further from the toilet flange. How do you fill this gap? Do you just put in a new wax ring and it fills the extra space or do you have to put in some kind of extender on the drain flange?

I just doubled up on the wax rings. Use the kind with plastic sleeves. Works for me. Good Luck!

Old Guy is right. That's how we do it. We put the one with the plastic thing-a-ma-jig inside a plain wax one.
I also noticed at Home Depot a thicker wax ring. I think they call it something like an extender or something.
Also, if you set the toilet and then grout around its base, the grout will keep the toilet from rocking. Works better than caulking.
