I was given a used fire pit like this one,20-Inch Portable Steel Fire Pit - Fire Pits at Fire Pits (http://www.firepits.com/fire-pits/fire-pits/20inchportablesteelfirepit.cfm)
except the finish is all gone and it is very rusty but in good shape still, how can i easily prep it for new paint and make it look good ?

Am working on my smoker right now that was given to me several yrs. ago . It was destined for the dumpster so I took it over as the metal was quite thick , more so than the ones today . I can only tell you what I'm doing with mine . I took my grinder & cleaned off all the rust that I could , then wire brushed hard to reach areas . The heat paint directions said not to prime it , so I didn't. I put on 1 coat , however after a few days I noticed some rust coming through . I had a 1/2 qt. of rust paint in my shed that' s been sitting for 6 mo. so I thought I'd use it . I brushed it on yesterday , a good thick coat . So now I'm waiting to see what happens( I'll keep experimenting ) .
