I would like to install Mexican tile with a non-skid, matte finish in my pool/patio area. A portion of the patio is underroof. The pool area is screened. Subfloor is concrete and cool deck, respectively. The concrete currently has indoor/outdoor carpeting glued down. The cool deck is cracking and lifting in several areas and has serveral small, completely bear areas. Any guidance for this ambitios project will be greatly appreciated.

Installation methods are a sand bed or a mortar bed. This link http://www.bhg.com/homeimp/masonry.html and the links with provide the process overview. Cruse a while!

The way I see it you need to think about why the Kool Deck failed, how you will solve the elevation change, and test your theory about the tile being any cooler than concrete. The supplier can provide more installation details, but if a mortar bed is recommended, failure of the Kool Deck is a clew to mortar failure also. A possible solution would be a slip sheet instead of a direct bond to the concrete.
