We just bought a new house and master bedroom is so dark. I feel like I'm in a cave. There is a vaulted ceiling which has faux painting in a dark chocolate brown/bronze color. The walls are a beige/light tan color. There is white crown/base moulding. We are reluctant to change the ceiling because the master bath has same ceiling but it looks fine there. I think this is a function or more light in the bathroom and it is a much smaller room/ceiling. In the bedroom, it's a large are of dark brown. Also, floors are hardwood so brown versus lighter tile in bathroom. Do you think we should repaint over the faux with a white color? Do we have to paint in bathroom too then or can we leave it? Will changing/adding light make enough of a difference? There are trees in the back which block some natural light coming in the windows. HELP! We are overwhelmed.

Hi cinna, welcome to DIY
It will be great if you can post an image so I can see more details, style, etc. Do you have curtains / shades in the bedroom?
In order to set an image here follow these easy steps-->
1 - upload your picture to a free online photoalbum like Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/)or Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/) , for example
2 - Look for the link of your picture (usually, photoalbums provide a "link for a forum" script) --> copy the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located),
3 - In the DIY Forum--> Reply post or open a new post--> Press the 'Insert Image' icon above and paste the link--> or type before the URL and after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image
