After removing wallpaper from drywall I found that it had been put up over bare drywall and I made sort of a mess of the dry wall. I patched it as best as I could and then painted. Wife is not happy with finish on wall and I guess I agree with her. How do I fix this? More sanding, mudding over whole wall and sanding, put up new drywall (don't think I want to do this). I'm worried about sanding through paper on drywall.

The best/easiest fix would be to skim coat the wall. Basically that involves covering the entire wall with a thin coat of joint compound. When you go to sand, be sure to use a sanding pole or anything that will hold the sandpaper flat. That will prevent the tenancy to sand dips into the j/c like you would if you just hold the sandpaper in your hand. Obviously the smoother you apply the j/c, the less you will need to sand ;)
