Looking at buying a 1950s cape. The door to the backyard is on the left side of the house in the kitchen. When you walk in... in front of you is the stairs, to your left is the dining room, then the kitchen and then a bedroom.
Anyhow, the door to the backyard is right next to the kitchen sink. Next to the sink is the wall and the stove is on that side. So I think my only two options are to either move the door or put the dishwasher far from the sink.
I know having the dishwasher far from a sink is a pain and costly to move plumbing. But how hard is it to move a door to the exterior of a house? And how much will it cost? I think the siding is some sort of hard asbestos type product. So that sounds like it will be a pain to find in order to cover up the whole from the old door.
This is one of the few flaws in the house but I don't know if I can live without a dishwasher.

Could be very costly and time consuming..esp if you want to keep the ext looking the same.
Reframing the opening..patching the walls interior and exterior..replacing the siding...fixing the interior flooring if required..etc etc...
I think I'd deal with carrying the dishes a few feet myself.

yeah but it's also costly to add the plumbing isn't it?

Could be..but maybe not depending on access. Do you have a basement..is there access behind cabinets or appliances?

What's under the kitchen? If the underside is accessable, it might not be a big job to run plumbing across the room.

the car garage is under the kitchen. I'll have to look to see if the plumbing is accessible.

Have you considered a portable dish washer. I just looked at a writeup on a 24" Maytag and it had good reviews. Just connect it to the sink faucet and drain into the sink. You could roll it into place to partially load or to wash and then move it anywhere in the kitchen when not using.
