Hoping someone here can provide some guidance. This tank has been a nightmare, and I'm on my 3rd gas controller in 2.5 years, so I'm starting to smell a lemon...
GE PowerVent water heater with White-Rodgers Intelli Vent gas controller. Came home to find it displaying the dreaded "Error 6" and in lock-out.
When it starts up, the fan and ignitor start up normally. When the gas clicks on, the flame starts up strong and normally. However, after about 3 seconds, the flame weakens, flutters and flares out.
I've checked the gas pressure and have blown through the gas supply tube during a cycle, so that is definitely clear. The power vent motor is running normally and there _seems_ to be good suction at the top of the device, as well as good blowing pressure outside at the outlet. Visually, there don't seem to be any obstructions on the flame sensor, nor any debris on the burner. The cycle is always the same, though... strong start, and then weakening of the flame and a generic sort of weak gas flare-out in the combustion chamber.
Other gas appliances in the house are working normally, including the furnace which pulls from the same 1" feed as the water heater. I'm at the end of my chain with this stupid thing. Any suggestions??
Thanks in advance!
