Help!!??

We got this brand new 70" long tv stand dark french walnut, and we wanted to make it more "resistant" to scratches, etc by applying polyurethane. Well, first we tried with a brush, but it left all this horrible brush marks. we sanded to get a smoother looks as it says on can, but it left this amber/white layer on the furniture. Then we tried spray poly, it went on nicely, but as it dried it left several white spots, almost if the poly was mixed with white paint! We sprayed about 3 coats, but it still looks horrible. Anyone have any idea on what to do? please?!
Thank you!

Before you sprayed on the poly, did you remove all the sanding dust?

About the only fix at this time is to either strip the table or sand it down until you get past the white. Once sanded, wipe the table with a rag wet with paint thinner and see if the color is back the way it's supposed to be.

You did use new sandpaper, right? so there was no paint residue from another job.
