I have an issue, I recently installed a 2 ton heat pump and am using a 2 ton coil with an expansion valve. Hear is my problem, every 4 or hours the system will kick on for a second, then kick off, then kick right back on, when it does this my Honeywell 8000 backlight will light up all by itself. It is not normally lit and then it will brighten up and go off right away after the unit comes on....I started to watch the heat pump and noticed when it came on when tstat lit up, I saw a little spark outside where the heat pump is wired up...What could be causing this to happen? Charge problem, relay problem? Any input is appreciated.

Wiring problem.
What is the make and model of your heatpump?
Post the color = terminal combination you see at your heatpump, air handler and stat.

An example (color codes vary)...

Exactly where is this spark? Low voltage terminal block? Pressure switch wire by a hot gas line?

I assume this problem only occurs in heat mode?

A common problem occurs related to the B terminal on your stat. This terminal is used with Rheem, Ruud and Weatherking. Few other heatpumps will use it.

I've seen this occur when the wrong wire is connected to common. The stat prevents the fuse from popping.

Goodman will not use the stat B terminal. Nothing should connect to your stat B terminal.
