Hi wondering if anyone can forward a little knowledge on ideas why my gas fireplace keeps going out.
Sometimes it stays on for a few hours .. and sometimes if just shuts off in a few minutes..
It is a vent less fireplace.. and I have tried cleaning the pilot light where the pin hole is but that hasn't helped..

I am trying to do all I can first before I have to spend the money on a repair man..

Thanks for any and all ideas!

Lynn, you have done all that you can do. It is time to call a professional. Vent-free gas fireplaces provide a lot of very efficient heat, but are required to be maintained by a professional. Sure, you may be able to get the pilot to stay on, but what about the other maintenance required? Can you test for gas leaks, low levels of carbon monoxide output or test proper gas pressures? Is the air shutter properly cleaned and adjusted, is there proper clearance for the mantle?

Vent-free gas logs get a bad reputation from people that do not read the owners manual, properly maintain them or "tinker" with them.
