When my furnace ignites, the force of the combustion blows out the pilot light.

There are two likely causes of this:

1) The pilot light is dirty, and behaves like a candle flame, being susceptible to being blown out.

2) You really have a delayed ignition problem ---- the burners don't lightly promptly after the gas valve opens, allowing gasa to accumulate that finally lights off with a "boom"!
