Hi :)
My husband and I are in the process of buying our first home we are going threw the VA with our loan and one of the problems that has come up is that the basement Bathroom has no Exhaust fan... the bank we're buying from will not fix it for us so we have to do it... but we're short on cash so I was wondering if we could get within code by just installing a ductless exhaust fan for the time being? We live in Wichita Kansas by the way.. if that helps at all..
Thanks!

There is no such thing as a ductless exhaust fan.
You may see them listed as such when looking at inexpensive kitchen rage hoods but these are not permitted where an exhaust fan is required.
You need to connect the fan to a duct and discharge it outdoors.

Ductless kitchens fans are often allowed if you use the optional charcoal filters. They filter out odors but not moisture. The primary function of a bath fan is to remove moisture, that can't be done if it has nowhere to go. I agree, it must exhaust outside.
