Im looking to have someone build a deck on the back of my house. Ive got a design in mind, but some of the ones ive looked at have the deck bumping up to the slab. This puts the wood of the deck, close to the bottom of the house. Its the same situation when putting too much mulch down in a flower bed. Is this someone to be concerned with?

Free standing is what's recommended these days, where the deck is a few inches away from the house. The posts that sit on the footings come up to the top of the railing.
