Hi, I have central air, the outside unit I don't hear at all when on, however the inside unit which is on the second floor in a closet...it has started to come on with a bang..it runs very loudly with rattles, shakes the walls and floors upstairs, and so loud that even down stairs I have to turn up the volume on tv etc when it is running...it is getting louder and louder...a few minutes ago when it turned off there was a loud bang...what do you think it is,,,and how do I fix it.
thank you for your help:wall::wall::wall:

Bad fan, or something lose in there. if you are handy enough, you can fix or replace it yourself. If not, better call a tech.

The longer you let it go the worse(more $ it will cost you) it will get, turning up the volume on the TV is not the answer. As stated, if you are handy you should be able to fix it, will need to turn off power to unit and check the blower compartment.

Should be 1/4 or 5/16 ,use a ratchet if you have to sounds like something got sucked in fan blades worth looking at will save you a service call for a simple problem that you may have, CUT OFF POWER SHOULD BE A SWITCH CLOSE BUY IT , take out screws look inside at the blower wheel , look inside both sides , remove, paper, sock or loose insulation or dead rat........

Thank you again, I will have to buy some ratchet today, is there a power source I need to turn off? If the fan itself in loose is the screw easy to get to, or if the fan needs replaced is that hard to do?
thanks for the info, have a great day

If you need to buy basic hand tools to access the blower, my advice would be to call a local HVAC contractor, chances are you won't be able to do anything with it, sorry.
