We purchased a home last year that has the guest tub/shower, which is on the 3rd floor, reversed hot and cold lines. The controls are individual-not single lever (hot water comes out of the cold side and vice versa). A sink, also with dual controls, backs up to the tub/shower wall, and another sink is across the bathroom on the opposite wall. Warm, not hot water, comes out of the sink that backs up to the tub/shower, but if you turn on the hot side faucet on the other sink, that is across the bathroom on the other wall, then the other sink (the one next to the tub/shower), the warm water turns cold almost instantly. We have a gas water heater on the bottom floor, so it has to feed water up three floors, so I wonder if that's part of the problem. It is a 50 gallon tank.. I know this is an involved question, but I'm trying to explain it as best I can. I'm assuming I will need to remove the sink that backs up to the tub/shower so I can access the water lines in the wall to correct the reversed cold/hot water lines. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

roggn63,

Welcome to the forums.

It sounds as though your shower valve has some real problems. Plumbed backwards and mixing the hot and cold water.

You're right -- you'll have to remove the vanity behind it to access the lines in the shower so you can correct the problems.

Thanks for the reply lefty. I realize now that I posted title incorrectly, using my user name instead of listing the problem. Is there any way to correct this post?
Thanks!
