i would like to tile my deck...the decking is approx. 15 yr old...i was considering removing the decking and laying down durock backer board on the crossmembers- does this sound like a good idea?

Only if your deck is sound and on the first floor. Use the acrlic sub instead of water.
Use a two part sealer when finished.
