Hampton Bay, apparantly the company does not exist except under Home Depots name and they do not have a clue when it comes to their products. Have a Hampton Bay wall lamp, outside fixture with a glass ball globe. Globe and bulb hang down, seems that I cannot get any life out of a bulb I put in the fixture. Instructions provide nothing about the type of bulb but since this bulb is in an enclosed globe, I am wondering if the heat the bulb gives off within the globe is too much causing premature failure? Bulb I use have been clear 40 watt, lamp is rarel used on I replace the bulb once a year. Are there specific bulbs for enclosed fixtures or is there another problem I am not aware of?

Vibration from doors closing will shorten the life of the bulb. A poor connection could also cause issues. Cheap bulbs don't seem to have a long lifespan either.
The socket should be labeled with acceptable type types and wattages.
You say the fixture is rarely used but you still need to replace it once a year. How long and how often is it used?

Thanks for the input; the light actually did come with a label that said not to exceed 60 watt, pretty standard for fixtures of this size. It is near a door and I suppose that might have something to do with it if door was slammed. I guess common sense would suggest that a fixture like this is designed to hang on one or both sides of a door.......maybe a rough service bulb will stand up better, they just do not look good in a clear globe
