I want to replace our original interior hollow core doors with solid core 6 panel oak veneer doors. They are currently on sale at both Home Depot (Jeld Wen) and Menards (Mastercraft). I have not been able to find any comparisons on quality. Does anyone know if they are comparable or if one is rated higher. As I looked at each it appeared that the Jeld Wen's veneer was a sixteenth of an inch or less, where as the Mastercraft looked at least twice that. Would that be an over powering reason to choose the latter? Both claim regular retail to be about $130; now on sale (all sizes, 24-36") for $99. I know each box store has had it's shortcommings with customer service, and I generally feel that Home Depot may be a step up in quality. But my question is primarily directed toward the two door brands and veneer thicknesses. If anyone can shed some light I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks

Big box stores generally carry bottom of the line stuff. And often the doors are not stacked correctly so the may be warped when you buy them. For somthing like this, I prefer local lumberyards. They usually have better quality and, believe it or not, better prices.

Thanks Bill. I was thinking of checking the lumber yard (only one small one remaining) in our town. I just assumed that they would not be close to the box store price and seeing as I'm replacing six doors, I figured the lumber yard would cost at least another couple of hundred dollars. I'm sure the quality will be better; it's sure worth a check. Thanks again, Willie
