I have a house built in 1929 and have a shower coupling that is 11" and all the ones I see for sale in stores are 8". Anyone have a clue if anyone makes an 11"? I really don't want to cobble one together using pipe nipples etc.

What coupling are you talking about?

He has two posts in different sections on the same subject. My guess is he means a shower arm. Maybe extra thick walls with the shower riser set way back from the wall.

I bet it's an old shower mixer w/ the hot & cold on 11" centers. A 'coupling' is something else entirely.

If you can still find an 8" nippled-together mixer, you will have to 'cobble' it together with longer brass nipples, assuming you don't want to mess with tile. Mixers with 11" centers are made of unobtainium these days. We couldn't find them 20 years ago & had to replace the nipples.

One option might be to look for a remodel plate, a large escutcheon that will fit some Delta & Moen shower mixers & gives you a teeny bit of room to work in (but not much). Might be time for some new tile.
