I have a ge xl44 the stove works, but the oven won't get hot. The pilot light is lit and when you turn it on the flame gets bigger, but won't ignite the burners. Also, I don't smell or hear gas coming out of the stove. The stove is the kind with the pilot lights.

Welcome Jessfromok to my Gas Appliances forum and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

The element (tube or bulb) the larger pilot flame heats is a safety element. If the pilot flame is all blue and impinging that element fully, chances are the element is defective. The safety is not a repairable part. Must be replaced.

There are two types of safety element. Either one may be used but neither one is interchangeable with the other. Detailed explanations of both types included steps required to replace each are in the sticky note. Click the link below.

Retail parts dealers and appliances parts stores can also help determine what the possible problem may be based upon that specific brand and model. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Dealers and appliances parts stores are listed in the phone book.

Cautionary Reminder Note:
Before attempting any repairs, be sure to unplug the appliance from the wall receptacle power source first.
