I have a 32 X 60 pool roof that needs to be redone. I hope someone can help me determine which would be best to use. Presently has 40 yo. fiberglass and redwood closure strips.
I am confused by 12 oz. fiberglass vs. polycarbonate: Which is better for snow load bearing, chemical ( chlorine, altho. less than outdoor pool), moisture & mildew resistance. second question: people have only offered foam strips, no wood let alone redwood. I am deeply concerned about the resistance of foam closure strips to deterioration from sun & chemicals as well as mildew resistance.

The polycarbonate is UV resistant and much stronger than fiberglass. (Also costs more, but it'll last longer.)

Mildew resistanance between the foam and redwood will be about the same. If either collect dirt and moisture and the conditions are right, they will develop mildew.

I've never had a problem with the sun destroying a foam closure, even when I was installing them in No. CA, one of the sunniest spots in the US.
