I have a very old oil furnace that I cleaned/serviced myself before the start of the heating season. It has worked great until today it shut itself down. Coincidentally I just replaced the air filter and maybe caused some vibration to the unit that finally took it out. I'm 95% percent sure that the Transformer took a crap. I have power coming from the stack control to it. The burner motor runs and there is oil. No flame. Jumped the transformer terminals with a screwdriver and have absolutely no output. Removed the transformer/back cover and there is cracks all over in the insulation (sealed/not serviceable)
I'm worried I won't be able to find a replacement. I tried to cross-reference the transformer but could not match up anything. I am probably going to have a tech come out in the morning and have a look but I'm afraid it will be a waste of money and I will be told the part is not available - replace furnace. Primary voltage is 115V, most I've seen are 120... any reason a 120v primary unit could not be used?
Maybe one of you guys could recommend a replacement?
Webster Type 312-24A026. 115v primary/10,000 Secondary.
Secondary Midpoint Grounded.
Any advice or help is greatly appreciated! I'm cold. :(

You should be able to use a new electronic transformer, you will need the right adapter plate depending on your burner. The tech should be able to do this for you. I would also recommend getting rid of that stack control and replacing it with a cad cell primary control. The stack control is unsafe and unreliable.

Thanks for the reply. Transformer was bad. Tech came out this morning and had one is stock that did the trick. Its a bit "rigged" but his retro-fit looks solid and safe. He also changed the nozzle out for a smaller one. I agree that the size I put in was probably overkill. The stack control is probably the original and has aparently worked fine for many years. I think you make a very valid point though, I will look into it but will probably end up replacing the furnace before I put any more money into this old beast.
