I am currently building my new home and I am ready to paint the interior. I would like to have some feedback on paint brand selection.

What would be a better quality paint between Sherwin Williams PM400 Latex and Olympic Premium Latex? Lowe's currently has the Olympic brand at 25 percent off. Any comments are appreciated.

I almost always used promar 200 on new homes and have been very satisfied with it. If your woodwork paints, I highly recomend their proclassic waterborne enamel, it's expensive but imo well worth the extra cost. Promar 400 is probably more popular for new homes but doesn't do as good of a job. I've not used enough paint from a big box store to have a good opinion other than the fact you are more apt to find quality coatings at your local paint store.

If you tell SWP that you are building a new house and intend to buy your coatings from them, they will likely offer you a discount.

Products sold at a big box store, including name brand, are formulated to meet price points first and quality levels second. These companies have enough influence to pressure manufacturers to produce product to the specs and price levels the big boxes desire so that they can appear to be competative and to under price other retailers.

This is just a fact of life when buying many different products from large retailers. The result is a product that does not perform as well as the non big box version of it.Paint is only one catagory where this takes place.

I agree with marksr,Pro Mar 200 is top grade in the cont. line and the pro classic for wood work ,But an added pointer if you are painting your wood work by hand base coat it before it goes up with a quality 3 in. trrim roller,It is a little tricky to work with and once it is all up i would ad just a touch of a product called floetrol to make it a little easier to work with,********************
