Can anyone tell me if a Whirlpool dryer Mod. # LEQ9030PQO should have 120 volts at element with timer in "off" position?
Dryer works fine with new element installed but find it odd to have voltage there with dryer off. The problem before was element broke & shorted to frame causing it to stay on at half power. Just want to be sure there isn't another problem.
Thanks, Dave

It might. Easy enough to trace wires or look at a schematic. I had a dryer once (at a rental) whose element burned in half, and was shorted to the chasis, and was 120 volt hot, without the thing on and running!

This is why it is always a good idea to disconnect any 240 volt appliance, when servicing, as they often wire one side of the element direct, while the other side (leg) is the only one that gets switched.

L2 goes though the motor
L1 goes through the timer

so it shouldnt have either one with timer off

I kinda thought both legs to element should be off when dryer is off. Strange thing is I had motor start switch apart & seems to be in good working condition. Contacts look ok & operates freely. Also had a similar timer I tried & still had 120 volts to element in "off" position. How does the door switch come into play? I'm guessing just to break the circuit to motor as a safety feature. Nothing to do with voltage to element.
