Our system is about 12 years old and we've had it pumped every 3 years. Just had it done about 2 months ago. Has always worked fine.

Last week water stated backing up in the basement shower while it was being used. I was away so the wife calls a service to come out. The guy opens the cap on the PVC riser before the tank and shoves a shovel handle down the pipe into the water. Nothing happens. He opens the cap on the riser just after the tank and tells my wife to stand back. He shoves the shovel handle into the pipe and woosh the water flows out into the leach field like a fire hose. He says we need more air going into the system.

I checked the 4 vents on the roof and they are all clear. Can someone give me some insight as to what may be going on and how to deal with it?

Thanks for you expertise.
