Can you use the existing heat duct? The house I am looking to buy does not have central air cond. It has central heat and a window unit for A/C. Can I buy a central a/c unit and how do I install it? About how much will it cost. Help?

Yes, when you use central air, it uses the same duct as your heating system use. It has a coil put above the furnace, and the blower in the furnace moves the air though the A/C- Coil.
Get 2 to 3 bids from dealer on what it may cost, too many variables out there for us to get you a price on line. Make sure the dealer do a Manual-J (Load Calc) on your home for the correct size unit.

Let me add that the duct may not be the correct size for AC. Your contractor will perform a heat load on the home and will be able to tell you if the duct is the correct size for AC.

Also the blower may need to be changes out for more air flow.

After a Manual J load calc is performed for each room, they need to do a Manual D to properly size the duct system & air handler for the A/C system.
Also, the ducts might need to be insulated.(?)
Do a Google & Yahoo search for more in-depth information!
