Kitchen Small Electric Appliances - Automatic drip coffee maker...:(

Whats a guy look for when one of these decides NOT to pass water thru itself?? Is there a commercial cleaner or anything to open these up with?? Tried the white vinegar but but it took 2 hr cycle to get 1/2 cup ran thru it. No coffee in the mornig is NOT good :wall: :gmorning:. Thanks in advance.

These coffee makers work by water being heated in a small chamber and spurting upward when it boils.
If you are not hearing any gurgling sounds it is likely that the switch, safety limit thermostat or heater is gone.

For what any of these parts cost a new coffee maker would be a wise purchase.

It makes the gurgling noises and everything gets hot......water just refuses to make its way up the tube, thru diffuser and on into the basket.
Stubborn male pride stands in the way of just buying a new one...she and I have a bet and I HAVE to win (or clean bathrooms for a month).

In that case a descaler might help as vinegar is not strong enough...........(You used the vinegar full strength right?)
I am not sure what descalers are available to you but CLR is one we have and you would use this full strength.

Resist the urge to take the mechanism apart at first because the rubber/plastic parts may fall apart because of age.
There usually is a rubber hose that plugs between the boiling chamber and the tube going to the top.
There also may be a check valve in the boiling chamber that could be plugged or broken.
If you see pulsations in the water reservoir it would indicate a bad check valve.

you might want to use distilled water. It will prevent the problems you are having.
