I have a 4006b that i want to use as a strap on mount. Will it work that way or do i need one designed for a strap on application? Thanks, Ed

Ed, I've had pretty good luck using them as strap ons... just be careful handling the capillary that you don't kink the tubing. If you mount the bulb with hose clamps, only tighten them just enough to keep the bulb against the pipe. INSULATE the bulb, and maybe a foot or two on either side.
You might find that it responds a bit more slowly... but that might not be a problem, depending on the application.
If I had to BUY a new aquastat, I would just buy the right type, so I'm assuming that you've got one laying around that you want to use... what's to lose for trying?

I just installed it before i got your reply. I used heat compound, alum. tape, then insulation. It seems to work good, just a few degrees low measured buy a Infrared thermometer. Still working on my hair brained project you helped me with. Ill let you know how it turns out. Thanks, Ed

I wanna know how it turns out!
Remember one thing about using the IR gun on copper... you need to paint the spot FLAT BLACK, or the emissivity of the copper will mess with the measurement.

Just got the gun a couple of months ago as a birthday gift, love it. I did notice that i had to read off the iron parts of my system. Great info thanks once again, Ed
