Is there a way to make the email program Outlook Express give you some kind of simple visual (not audible) notification, like maybe down in the taskbar, that you have a new unread email? If so I'd like to know about it. thanks

In Outlook, click Tools, Options, Email options, Advanced email options, then click the box beside which ever notification you want.
Not sure if it will work in Express or not.

With my Outlook Express I can click Tools, Options, but then there is no Email options or Advanced email options. Instead, when I click on options, there are a bunch of tabs which include General, Signatures, Read, Security, Connection, Send, Receipts, Maintenance, and Compose. Under the General tab there is an option you can check if you wanted a sound to play when new messages arrive, but there is nothing under this tab or any of the others that gives an option to have a visual alert.

Yeah, I was reading your title and answering, then you said Outlook Express, so I wasn't sure. With Office 2007 you have the option on Outlook to have a little transparent box slide up onto the screen to let you know you have an email and who it is from, then it disappears. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

hi sgull,
I'd suggest to avoid these free programs dealing with emails....
The setting of the visual notification is quite simple, but the activation is not with the OE options.
Try this : at the bottom of the screen, you'll see the taskbar--> right click--> Properties--> Notification area--> click Customize--> look for the item "You have new email" --> important note--> it can be in the current or in the past items--> when you find it--> select--> Always Show--> Apply--> each time you receive an email, you will see the blue envelope in the bottom / right of your screen

Hi sgull,
You're welcome! :D
Alfer uninstall the free program, run Spybot or Lavasoft or any other "cleaning" program. Usually these free email programs come "loaded" with trojans or other bugs...
