I noticed tonight when my kid was in the bath tub that the water had an ever so slightly brownish tinge to it. Not cloudy/muddy and no odors. I tested the kitchen and bathroom faucets and they were both brown too. We have well water here.

I've only been in this house for two months and I'm renting it.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be the cause of this before I call my landlord? If I had to guess, the house is at least 50 years old, possibly older.

Has the house been sitting a while before you moved in?
Does it kinda look like tea or very weak coffee?

It sounds like when you used the water for the tub, it just knocked some minerals off, that have built up in the pipes over time.

The same kind of thing happens to my water as well. It only last a few minutes or more, and then its gone.

99% of all wells have some kind of build up in the pipes.
From the sound of what you are describing, it should go away as fast as it appeared.

waterwelldude,

The house had been occupied right before I moved in, so it wasn't sitting. However, that's exactly what the water looks like - very weak tea. In fact, it is so subtle that it is not very noticeable until I pour some of it into a cup and put it next to another cup of bottled spring water. Only then can you really tell the difference.
