Hello,
I want to add light to a pantry. The space is enclosed, about 24" deep, 42" wide, and 8' tall. It has a bifold door on it and there are six shelves made of that white, plastic-coated wire shelving.
I think I can get electricity and a switch into the closet easily.
I'm considering my options and am wondering what others think would work well. The three possibilities I've come up with so far are:
1. LED rope lights, perhaps in the front inside corner just inside the opening, flowing around the sides and ceiling.
2. Slim line fluorescent lights also placed just inside the opening and located on the two sides and at the top of the doorway. They make slim line lights that you can string together.
3. Xenon puck lights, placed just inside the opening and pointing into the shelving area, perhaps one puck a bit below the level of each shelf.
I'm concerned that the rope lights would look cheesy. The other two seem better, but neither is hard-wired, so both would have cords plugged into outlets, which seems a bit messy.
I don't think can lights would work because there isn't room on the side walls for them and installing them in the ceiling would leave many areas of the pantry in the dark.
Any thoughts or better ideas?

Be aware that electrical codes are very strict on closet lighting.

I'll assume the door is centered. I would put a single tube 2 foot fluorescent light above the door and a second and third vertically on each side of the door. The vertical ones I would center equal height from floor and ceiling and 4"-6" from the sides of the door.
I would install one Jbox and connect all three with surface race.

Thanks for the replies! I think I'll go with fluorescent strips. There will be less shadow so we'll actually be able to see the cans on the shelves.
