I'm putting together a home alarm system and stumbled on this great forum.

Does any dual-tech motion sensor turn off the radar when the system is disarmed? If not, is it possible to program a panel to shut off the entire sensor while disarmed? I'm inclined to use a Vista 20p but open to others.

Thank you.

In my opinion it would be kinda pointless. You get lot more radiation from holding a cell phone to your ear, but if you really want to you could use the output programming of the Vista panel to activate a relay that would disconnect the 12v power to the device.

You would have to tinker with the programmig a bit to have the power restore when you arm, because a powered down motion defaults to an open zone, and they take a minute or so to warm up. You might have to program a custom zone type as a force arm/vent zone.

the only thought i have on this ron- if the relay chatters on start up- the panel will see the 1st closure, then if it does reset again, or chatter- the next will be an alarm

maybe a timed relay that would shunt them for a little while- like 60 seconds.

but agree- nothing to worry about with the "radiation"

hell they dont even set off radar detectors like the real old ones did

Wow! This forum is impressively active. Thank you for your thoughts.

I acknowledge that cell phone usage is considered an acceptable risk to most, including myself. On the other hand, I am concerned more about my infant who is more susceptible to all kinds of modern hazards. Also, K-band packs quite a bit more energy than cell phone frequency, which leads to a different type of adverse effects on human physiology.

In any case, it seems like the difficulty is getting the sensor to gracefully turn back on. If I program an exit delay to, say one minute, would that solve the problem?

You are in basically unknown territory. _No_ reputable installer would configure this in this manner. There is no standard or data to really draw from. All I can suggest is to experiment with it.

Ah. Thank you.

I'm an electrical engineer and happy to make a custom square wheel, as long as no one else has made one already.

Also, any install of this nature would not be UL approved and I know that insurance companies are starting to require that if you are requesting the discount.
