I just picked up this thermostat for its auto ac/heat change feature. I have an outdoor AC unit and a Natural Gas heating unit in the basement. The manual & install instructions only reference a heat pump, but I specifically asked for a thermostat that would work with my setup. I saw a chart in the box that references AC, HP, A2, H2, hh, h2, H & C, wouldnt H&C (heat only/cool only) be my scenario or do I need another type of thermostat? Would this be a "Single-Stage Furnace w/AC" setup. Thanks in advance.

If the full model # is TP-PRH01-A, then yes it should work.

I usually select "AC" for single stage heat and single stage cool, but I'll see if I can find your manual.

What do you have for heating cooling equipment?
You have a very high end t-stat for a basic system. but if you system is more than basic, maybe we can take advantage of what you may have.

I really only got the thermostat for the auto change over from AC to heat. This time of year my wife battles the thermostat and I just wanted it to be a little easier. A guy I know that does a lot of side work had a box full and was selling them for $200, I explained that was too much for what I needed and he offered to take $80!
For AC I have a 3-1/2 ton Ruud 13 seer condenser s/c zephyr [13aja42a01]. For Heat I have a gas furnace, weather King 90RJ or TJ.

Ok, the furnace is pretty basic, so we can't take advantage of the feature that is on the t-stat.

well if I just connect the 4 wires, where would the Red wire go? Or are you saying the thermostat is useless? Would anything have to be jumpered?

Red wire goes to RH, and add a jumper to RC.
Nothing wrong with that stat, you just got a lot of stuff on there that could be taken advantage of, but you got a good price on it, so don't worry.
I would of said something else if you paid over $150 for stuff you can't use on that t-stat.

Does my gas furnace (weather King 90RJ or TJ) have its own blower? Option 4 sets Fan (G) to be On with W/W1 and I am not sure which way to go.

It has it's own blower control, so let furnace control the blower on and off.

I finally got around to hooking up the stat today but the stat shows no signs of life. I hooked up the pigtail up to Vg(black) & V+(red) for the single piece setup. Any suggestions?

troubleshooting step 1 says check for power between Rh/Rc and C (common) which they show C going to Fan coil then heat pump, but I didnt have a C on the old stat. Where do I go from here?

I'm new here and not a HVAC expert, but it looks like you are going to have to hood up terminal C. It is the ground and without it, the thermostat has no path for the voltage.
The old stat was battery powered I'm guessing?

Take the unused wire in the wall, and hook that up to C.
Then go to the furnace and wire that same colored wire on to C on the board at the furnace.

Is there no C terminal on the furnace board?
jiggysmb

edit- I just noticed the blue wire is labeled 'C', bottom left of the picture. Is that a safe ground?
Jay11J

I can't see the Letters in the photos. Just as long the wire goes on to C.
Double check yourself, to make sure the same letters are matching colors/letter to the t-stat upstairs.

The terminal says C but the blue wire connected to it is not part of the set of wires that is run to the stat. The blue wire in the stat bundle of wires is not used. I assume I can just attached the unused blue wire to the C then use that for my ground?

Yes, use the unused blue wire at the t-stat to C on the furnace.
The blue wire there now on the furnace maybe the C wire from the unit outside. (Another wire from outside goes to Y)

Thanks Jay. My second attempt yesterday was successful! Everything is working as it should be. It was definately worth the trouble so we dont have to fight with turning AC/Heat on/off. Big thank you to all!
